A Sporting Chance
project background

Recently, international experience has shown that there is a huge potential in using a sports club to motivate young people. Correctly channelled, this motivation will also encourage the youngsters to improve their learning skills and find their role within society.

A Sporting Chance draws inspiration from the work done by Mark Hopkins and his team at Learning through Leeds. That project started within the Playing for Success project supported by the UK government.

Learning through Leeds set up learning centres in partnership with Leeds United. They realized that the sporting venue is an important point of contact for many disadvantaged groups. These groups will turn up to centres located within the grounds, yet would not cross the threshold into traditional educational establishments.
